Lu is a self-taught jeweler who has been creating from waste, found objects and repurposed materials since 2014 under her first brand, grey jays jewelry. She moved to Porto, Portugal in 2022 and shifted solely to creating with and studying aluminum as a waste material under her own name in her studio Morto Vivo that she shares with her partner. Lu and the studio adhere to a waste-led, no-petroleum design process meaning no gas, oil, plastics or freshly mined metals in the creation process.
Lu believes in beauty that doesn’t compromise people or planet. Each piece of jewelry embodies the art of reimagining waste. Her commitment to found aluminum is rooted in her knowledge of the many materials she has used in the past, moving toward repurposed materials that when inevitably returned to the earth, do so without harm. By choosing to adorn in Lu’s jewelry, you are becoming part of a way of being that values creativity, true sustainability and responsibility.
